Initiation of a clinical collaboration between Carmentix and the Chinese University of Hong Kong

Carmentix has started a clinical collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Prince of Wales Hospital, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR. The addition of the Prince of Wales Hospital as our third clinical site to date will allow Carmentix to expand our multi-center prospective clinical study.

Our clinical collaboration in Hong Kong is spearheaded by Associate Professor Liona Poon from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at CUHK. Liona's research interest includes the prediction and prevention of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. As a recognized leader in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G), Liona has over 100 peer-reviewed publications in top O&G journals. As part of the collaborative study with Carmentix, her team includes Associate Professor Daljit Singh Sahota, Professor Leung Tak Yeung, Piya Chaesaithong and Kubi Appiah.

Starting in 2018, a prospective cross-sectional study has been initiated in the Preterm Clinic, Multiple Pregnancy Clinic and Obstetric Ultrasound in the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. This collaborative study will allow us to evaluate our predictive biomarkers to identify pregnant women at risk of spontaneous preterm birth. This is in light with the lack of a predictive preterm biomarker to identify pregnant women at risk of spontaneous preterm birth. Together with our clinical recruitment sites with the Royal's Women Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women and Henan Provincial People's Hospital, we hope to establish at large bio-bank that allow us to further fine-tune and validate our panel of biomarkers.
